Recently, Dr. Sheng Jiang, Head of S.C’s Perovskite R&D team, collaborated with EPFL, North China Electric Power University, Soochow University, Wuhan University of Technology, and Westlake University to publish a fundamental research paper titled “Cation reactivity inhibits perovskite degradation in efficient and stable solar modules” in Science. The paper proposes a comprehensive strategy to enhance the inherent stability of the perovskite structure through in-situ reaction, thereby improving the overall stability of perovskite solar modules (PSMs).

Science is an academic journal published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). It is one of the world’s authoritative academic journals and is renowned for publishing the best original research papers, as well as peer-reviewed journals that review and analyze current research and scientific policies.

Research reveals that incorporating N,N-dimethylmethyleneiminium chloride into the perovskite precursor can in situ form methyl tetrahydrotriazinium (MTTZ+) and dimethylammonium cations, which significantly improved the photovoltaic performance of perovskite films. Most importantly, MTTZ+ cation notably increased the formation energy of iodine vacancies and enhanced the migration energy barrier of iodide and cesium ions, which effectively suppressed the degradation of device performance caused by thermal decomposition and phase separation. The PSMs achieved a certified power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.2% with an aperture area of 27.2 cm2, with a stabilized PCE of 23.0%.The encapsulated PSM retained 87.0% of its initial PCE after ~1900 hours of maximum power point tracking at 85°C and 85% relative humidity.

High conversion efficiency and long-term stability are crucial performance indicators in the commercialization process of perovskite solar cells. In order to verify the industrialization of perovskite solar cells, S.C has built a perovskite pilot line at its Changzhou base, covering all process steps for the production of perovskite single-junction solar cells and tandem solar cells. S.C has always adhered to combining basic research and development directions of perovskite solar cells, actively promoting the independent design and development of equipment for various process steps of perovskite solar cells and their tandem solar cell production, verification and optimization of key components, perovskite solar cells technology and its production line upgrade and developed the equipment that matches GW capacity mass production, contributing its own strength to promoting the development of solar cells technology with higher efficiency and lower cost.
